Join WCCC for our Annual 3-Day Weekend in MADISON Wisconsin!
Overview:
3 days of great biking with multiple options to appeal to a wide range of riders and including SAG support on Saturday, our longest ride day.
Keeping with our Madison Weekend tradition, we’ve planned 3 new routes this year to keep the weekend fresh and interesting for our returning cyclists. You can expect beautiful scenery, great bike rides, hearty food, and great company!
Friday, July 18
You'll want to get an early start for Madison to enjoy all of the activities planned for the weekend (and to beat weekend traffic). Allow about 3.5 hours for your drive up on Friday morning.
Our weekend begins on Friday at Noon sharp at
Quaker Steak and Lube in Middleton for lunch -- a kitschy, fun place with a good and varied menu to fuel our first ride of the weekend
. It's across the street from the host hotel and maybe you can check in early -- call the hotel to find out.
Quaker Steak and Lube
After we stuff our faces, we will head out for our first ride of the weekend through the pastoral areas north and west of Madison.
Enchantment Road- 28 miles
We ride out of town, and before long we'll be cruising down shady lanes with beautiful pastoral scenery. This route is a great way to immerse yourself into Madison biking. This is not only a nice introduction to the area but a good tune-up for the rest of the weekend. Expect some moderate hills - just enough to warm up those legs for Saturday's long ride!
After the ride, be assured your appetite will be tuned up for a fine group dining experience tonight in Madison.
Saturday, July 19
Our day begins with a full breakfast at the hotel before heading out on today’s feature ride:
The Devil Made Me Do it - 78 miles (62 miles option)
We've planned something special to mark our 5th year of going to Madison: riding to Devil's Lake State Park, where we will enjoy this beautiful area formed during the last ice age. Our ride to Devil's Lake will take us through rolling countryside and around pristine lakes. There is even a short ferry ride across the Wisconsin River before arriving at Devil's Lake State Park -- bring your bathing suit because a dip in the lake will feel good after the morning miles. We are planning either a barbecue or pack lunch at the lake.
Today's ride will be an accomplishment worthy of celebrating, so we will regroup at the end of the day and enjoy a wonderful dinner at one of Madison’s great restaurants.
Sunday, July 20
We have one more day to explore the outdoors before the weekend comes to an end. We've arranged for late check-out at the hotel (2 p.m.) so we can fully enjoy today's ride, have lunch, and still have time for a shower before the drive back home. Today's ride is more-relaxed and fun:
Ride around Lake Mendota - 28 miles
Today's ride will be a casual tour around Lake Mendota. You'll feel as if you're on a boat as we ride along the shore of Lake Mendota with beautiful views of Madison and the State Capital. We will tour through neighborhoods, farmlands, as well as experience Madison urbanity.
This scenic ride culminates with an optional final group brunch at a local restaurant. We say good by to our friends, hopefully having made a few new ones! We'll take home great memories of our weekend together in Madison. There is a 2:00 pm check-out at the hotel so you can take a shower before the drive back to Chicago.

Other: The WCCC Madison Weekend requires training and a base of miles beforehand. You should pack gear for both
sunny, hot days and cool, rainy ones. The SAG will provide snacks and food along the route and carry tools and
air pump. The SAG vehicle can provide a bump down the road if needed. but riders should plan to bike most of the miles - rain or shine.
As the weekend gets closer, we will help riders organize into car pools as needed.
