~49 miles total roundtrip (or take Metra home for half the mileage)

We'll leave from Starbuck's promptly at 9:00am for a no-drop, first half of ride all the way up to Graeter's Ice Cream's 1st Chicago area store.  On the way we'll point out the new starting point for the North Branch Trail (new extension officially opens 9/21, you can ride it on the way home), swing by a cemetery to find the oldest living tree in Chicago, then proceed north to get some famous Cincinnati ice cream! (Menu)

After an "ice cream lunch" we'll get everyone back to the North Branch Trail where the ride becomes a drop ride and everyone can freely ride their own pace and/or route to get home.  If you take the trail all the way back, be sure to ride on the new 1.5 mile extension south from the old trailhead at Devon and Caldwell Avenues down to Forest Glen Ave.

Option: If you'd rather ride less miles, a Metra station is right next to the ice cream shop. You can take the Metra MD-N train home from the Northbrook stop for $6.25. Trains depart on Sat. at 11:33am, 12:28pm, 1:33pm, 3:33pm, 5:33pm and arrive Chicago's Union Station 50 min. later.
